Study on Kinetics of Copolymerization of Methacrylic Acid and Sodium p-styrenesulfonate(2695-37-6)

The free radical copolymerization of methacrylic acid and sodium p-styrenesulfonate(2695-37-6) was studied by potassium persulfate-sodium bisulfite as initiator. The copolymerization rate was obtained by expansion method. The effects of initiator concentration, monomer concentration. The effect of reaction temperature on the rate of copolymerization.

The results showed that the copolymerization rate increased with the increase of initiator concentration, monomer concentration and reaction temperature, and the kinetic relationship of copolymerization was established. The apparent activation energy of copolymerization was 58.97 kJ /mol.
